The Collaborative Center for Restorative Practices in Higher Education (the Collaborative Center) is an academic center within the IIRP. In alignment with the IIRP mission, we aim to build a community where higher education practitioners and scholars can learn together, develop relational competencies, find camaraderie, co-create new knowledge, and implement restorative practices in higher education. As the Collaborative Center grows, we will explore opportunities to create outreach initiatives such as dialogues and webinars along with the current offerings listed below.
Research
At its core, the Collaborative Center is an academic center that seeks to engage in rigorous and collaborative research. To this end, we are committed to conducting and supporting research initiatives that generate new knowledge and spur innovation, challenge assumptions and old narratives, and contribute to developing equitable and inclusive higher education communities with restorative practices. Our research is in alignment with the IIRP Research Agenda.
Restorative Practices in Higher Education Learning Collaborative
Restorative Practices in Higher Education Learning Collaborative
The Restorative Practices in Higher Education Learning Collaborative (the Learning Collaborative) is an exciting two-year commitment that immerses higher education professionals in training, coaching, and meaningful dialogue with the goal of infusing restorative practices into their work. As an ongoing study, the Learning Collaborative examines how higher education professionals learn and adopt restorative practices, how and where they naturally use restorative practices, and the contextual factors that influence uptake of restorative practices in the higher education setting.
Participants learn together in a cohort model, carefully designed to help you develop their restorative practices skills and competencies, clarify restorative actions in their work, receive feedback and support from peers and experts in the field, and reflect on their personal journey with restorative practices. The Collaborative Center serves as the backbone for the study, providing professional development and resources, and acting as leadership coaches for ongoing guidance, facilitation, and support. There is no cost to participate.

Restorative Practices in Higher Education Virtual Forum
The Higher Education forum, held December 5-6, 2024, aimed to build connections and capacity for the integration of restorative practices into the field of higher education. The forum provided an opportunity for dialogue, learning, sharing experience, and discussion about restorative practices and restorative justice research and practice. The keynote panel, Interrogating the Origins of Restorative Practices, brought together scholars and practitioners with expertise in diverse applications of restorative practice to discuss the importance of understanding the origins of restorative practice, the co-optation of that work by Western systems, and the ways that practitioners can seek to decolonize their practice to honor the alignment of restorative practices with Indigenous and non-Western cultures. Our esteemed panelists included: Sadiki Muhammad, Christianne Paras, Kay Pranis, and Iman Shabazz.
