Rachel Kutney is an IIRP instructor and training and consulting specialist at Chester County Intermediate Unit in Chester County, Pennsylvania. She specializes in the implementation of restorative practices, social-emotional learning (SEL), Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), and Structured Literacy. Rachel's work at the Intermediate Unit embraces restorative practices methodologies, engaging districts with training and supporting their sustainability efforts.
She discovered her passion for restorative practices while working as an 8th grade language arts teacher at Twin Valley School District in Pennsylvania. She was introduced to the field by current IIRP instructor, Jen Williams, formally the school counselor in her Twin Valley school building, who led the restorative practices efforts in the middle school. Rachel has 10 years of experience utilizing restorative practices in the classroom and 5 years as an instructional coach supporting new and seasoned teachers with restorative practices implementation.
Rachel earned two master’s degrees—one in Social Emotional Learning from Immaculata University and one in Literacy from Cabrini College—and thrives at the intersection of these disciplines. She enjoys using affective questions in literature to foster deeper connections and understanding.
Outside of work, Rachel spends time with her husband and two children. Together, they are avid fans of Philadelphia sports, frequent visitors to Longwood Gardens, and lovers of various outdoor adventures.
